II Corinthians 12:9-10

“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

I have seen these verses to be true and beautiful this past week! There is a sweet fellowship with Christ to be enjoyed when you embrace your weaknesses in what He sends you out to do. “For when I am weak, then I am strong!”

I saw Christ send me out to enjoy fellowship with Him while among others through the pleasures in musical expression. Christ gave many gigs last week. At the same time, I saw my body start off (and stay) very weak and sick. I found myself in a position of great opportunity to testify of my pleasures in God and Christ, while I found my body unable to testify in its own strength. Praise God for His words to Paul here! “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”

I consider, then, this bodily weakness in this opportunity to be like a calling card from Christ. He is on His way. When He ordains that I know and feel my weakness, I understand my weak state to be the prelude to Christ’s fellowship. It is as if the weakness serves as His announcement, which reads: “I am coming to rest upon you in power.”

The power of Christ in me in the labor that He puts before me produces amazing fruit! A far better harvest than if I were left to my own devices. The fruit of my labors prove to be not of my own doing as my weakness is exposed. My strength proves to be from a source outside of myself. My pleasures in my labors then evidence to be of a different paradigm than what the world enjoys. My greatest pleasure is in the fellowship that I know with Christ. Praise God for strong days full of heath! My health is only because of His granting. But praise God for my weaknesses, for there is a particular power, a particular grace, a particular fellowship to be had with Christ in that hour!

God will accomplish what He sends you to do, artist. And if He sends you to make known the power of His strength through the means of the artistic skills He has given you, then remember this: His power is made perfect in your weakness. His perfect power is made known to them and His perfect power is made known to you. Do not despise such a fellowship. Embrace your weaknesses from faith that God will accomplish what He intends to accomplish. God’s power will be displayed as He desires, and God’s grace will be sufficient for you.

So artist, enjoy the rest that is had when Christ is upon you in power. You will find that fellowship to be what you now long for as you say, “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
