Revelation 4:11

“Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.”

Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power! For You created every artist that has considered this earth, whether they consider You or not, and by Your will they existed and were created. By Your will they serve Your purposes, though their purposes often seek their worth apart from You.

By the will of God we exist, artists, and by the exertion of His will we were created. Do you believe this? By the will of God you exist in the frame you have been given, with the skills you find within, and for the purpose of evidencing how glorious God is. God is your Potter, pot. We are not our own thought. Our tiny, limited will did not bring us into existence. None of us exist, let alone exist as we do, apart from God. Therefore, it is easy to understand why the twenty-four elders who see God face to face humble themselves, throw their crowns before the throne, and from the purest of affections respond to such surmounting evidence of how rarefied God is with, “Worthy are you…to receive glory and honor and power!” The elders are moved... There is nothing more glorious and more worthy than God Himself, and everything that is lesser than God exists because of God’s will and exertion. Worthy are You, our Lord and God!

One day our affections will line up with those of the elders.

The word “worthy” is a bit different from the word “deserving”. Deserving implies that something is due someone, which would not be an inappropriate cry here, but that is not what the elders say. They say “worthy!” Worthy is a word of affection. To cry out “worthy” is more than just an acknowledgment of worth, it is an affectionate, agreeable affirmation of an established worth. God is deserving indeed. Every created thing evidences and confirms the worth of God that already exists. But until every created things cries out, “Worthy are You, our Lord and God”, do the affections of the created enjoy the worth (value) of their Creator.

Artists, in all that you enjoy of what God has made, do you ultimately enjoy God for it, in it? Nothing exists except that God brought it into being and gave you a frame to comprehend its pleasures. Do you enjoy God’s unsearchable wisdom and power in all that you do not yet understand of His creation? God perfectly understands all that He created - all of it. It is by His will that all that He created exists. God’s will is incredible. Where we, the finite, grope to comprehend the will of the Infinite, let us be quick to remember who is the creation of Whom.

As you begin to find out who you are, artist, how you are skilled, and just how uniquely small you are in this beautiful spectrum of the created, turn every affection of your heart towards God. You search for what is grand because God wrote that longing on your heart. Every evidence of splendor that you enjoy exists because of the Designer and Creator of all things. God is worthy to receive the glory and honor and power of all His works. Does your artist heart agree and express such affections? There is a fellowship with our Creator to be enjoyed. Let's get about it like the elders do.
