Colossians 3:4-5

“When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.”

We must have the long view in sight! Christ, who is our life, is going to be revealed. And if you are in Him, artist, you also will be revealed with Him in glory. No earthly glory compares to the glory that you will know and enjoy when Christ is revealed. So fumble not in the desires of the flesh in your artistry, set your sights on a glory that is sure: the revelation of Christ and His bride.

The world, as it does not know Christ, does not have a hope that is sure. Its artistic expressions’ concur. The world, as it does not desire Christ, does not desire His glory. They trade it for the fading glory of man. The world, as it does not believe Christ, does not have the truth as its guide. This case is not hard to make.

But you have Christ, Christian! You are not hopeless like the world. You are not lifeless like the world. You have a glory to be enjoyed forevermore that the world despises and rejects. Christian, you are unlike the world.

Consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality in your artistry; dead to impurity in your artistry; dead to fleshly passions in your artistry; dead to evil desire in your artistry; dead to greed in your artistry. All such affections evidence an idolatrous heart. Observe your artistry and see if there is any harmful way in you.

Artist, there is a glory to be revealed that must be pursued! But it will never be obtained when you, and not Christ and Christ in you, is the end of your pursuit. This is the way of the world. The world is hungry for glory, and rightly so as glory is coming and is to be enjoyed! But it is hungry for its own glory, not Christ’s.

But the world did not create artistic expression, Christ did. The world did not create you, Christ did. The world does not create glory, Christ is glory! So consider yourself dead to the ways, passions, desires, motivations, and pursuits of the earthly body in its employment of artistic expression, and have life in Christ as He makes Himself known through every creature, yea, every artist that He so gloriously created.

Artists, when Christ is revealed in all of His glory, those who love Him will be with Him in His glory. Choose your pursuits and motivations wisely in your pleasures in the arts. Look long past your immediate self and see the two ends that await the revealing of Christ. One of them you will know. One of them you can enjoy even today!
